Peru

This is a sinewy country of tough, hard working people seemingly inured to difficult lives.  There are many in the highlands poor in money but sustained by family, animals, gardens and wild growing things.  They remain able to laugh and smile easily.  The traditional costumes are bright and light up like jewels against the earth and vegetation.  The country is stunningly beautiful in parts.  The Inca legacy is a source of pride (and tourist dollars) and the Inca monuments reveal a sophistication in engineering and stone work never surpassed.  Anywhere.  Ever.   Really.  (Click a thumbnail image once to enlarge; click within the left or right of the image to advance or go back - or use your right and left arrows.)
