At least in the US major cities there is a resurgence of interest in cabaret. Aspiring theater performers often get their stage legs in cabaret, so it can be an exciting source of energy as well as a showcase for fresh talent. More experienced performers provide a perspective and wisdom through which to enjoy "The American Songbook", up-and-coming theater composers and story tellers. I enjoy the music, the milieu, the energy and the tension in live, intimate performance. The images below are primarily from performances at New York's gracious Metropolitan Room (now shuttered), Don't Tell Mama, Feinstein's/54 Below and the Laurie Beechman Theater. Similar images were posted on the "Life is a Cabaret" album on my face book page. I note here that these images are not glamour shots to show off the artists; these pictures are intended to capture emphatic moments; the artists have not approved or vetted these in any way.
