Northern Italy Northern Italy is dotted with lovely small cities and towns - often with preserved historical centers and ancient walls, cobbled streets, plentiful churches (often with art of Rennaisance masters), odd monuments and wonderful trattorias, natural beauty and always, lots of history. These are well worth visiting if you are satisfied for your time spent on the more spectacular monuments of Rome, Venice and Florence, or merely want to slow the pace and texture of your travels.
